To put it simply, loosen the pinch bolt on the back end of the shifter rod. Slide the rod end off the motor stub. Raise the pedal to where you want it, slide on the rod end, and tighten the bolt. Don't worry about making the shift rod longer or shorter, it will shift fine if left the same length. Put a bit of grease or gear oil in the rod ends while you are down there, some Savages shipped with weak shift linkages, he grease will lower the chances of binding and snapping yours.
